Early College Program
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Early College Program is a dual enrollment program, in which students are enrolled in classes that satisfy high school graduation requirements and college credit accumulation. Students will attend classes on the Meramec Campus of St. Louis Community College and are still allowed to participate in their high schools’ extra-curricular activities. The 2-year program begins with a junior cohort group and continues through to the end of students’ senior year. The credit earned through STLCC will be entered in the Kirkwood transcript under St. Louis Community College.
PROGRAM GOALS
The ultimate goal of the early college program is for students to graduate with a high school diploma as well as an Associate’s Degree - General Transfer from St. Louis Community College STLCC (60+ hours). While in college, students will gain access to all the resources provided through STLCC.
SELECTION PROCESS
Current, interested 10th graders are expected to complete a Kirkwood High School Early College application packet. The Early College Program Committee looks at the overall picture of a student's academic performance.
- Application Completion and interview with counselors
- Essay
- Minimum of a 3.2 GPA
- Accuplacer or other placement scores indicating college readiness; Students are required to place at college level; therefore, students requiring developmental level course work, as established during placement testing, will not qualify for this program.
