Pioneer eLearning Academy and Other Virtual Options

The Pioneer e-Learning Academy (PeLA) allows students who thrive in an online environment to engage in asynchronous courses based on Kirkwood curricula and taught by Kirkwood teachers. The e-learning curricula mirrors the curricula of in-person courses, yet allows students to participate in self-paced, flexible modes of study. Teachers of KHS e-learning courses will provide, but are not limited to, the following:  self-guided learning modules with assessments, pre-recorded video content, virtual resources/libraries, online discussions, and consistent communication/feedback. Students taking e-learning courses will practice academic integrity, model effective learning behaviors, communicate with their instructors regularly, and stay on top of due dates/deadlines.

Because virtual instruction can be an effective education option for some students, there may be courses available either through a district-approved virtual option, or through the Missouri Course Access Program (MOCAP). The credit earned through MOCAP providers will be entered in the Kirkwood transcript under the corresponding institution. Example: Launch courses will be listed under Springfield Public Schools.

NOTE: Kirkwood School District will not cover the cost of virtual courses offered by outside vendors or other school districts if the course is offered virtually through Kirkwood High School Pioneer eLearning Academy (PeLA). For more information regarding enrollment in virtual courses through outside providers, visit https://mocap.mo.gov/.
