GLOSSARY OF TERMS KHS PPO
Activities Fair An evening event when kids can learn about and sign up for clubs and the many activities offered at KHS.
KHS PPO role: Officers decide if they wish to staff a table to share information, get volunteer sign ups and donations.
After Grad Party (AGP) The fantastic, memorable, drugfree and alcoholfree party the night of graduation. Tickets are sold but the funding comes primarily from the four years of class fundraising that precede graduation.
KHS PPO role: Class AGP Chair coordinates everything utilizing a volunteers and committees made up primarily of graduating seniors’ families. Prizes, food, entertainment, and Treasure Chests abound. Planning takes a full year.
Beautification Group of volunteers that works to beautify KHS grounds.
KHS PPO role: Volunteer chair assesses needs and implements plans.
Best Seat in the House An every other year fundraising effort. Chances are sold for the winning prize a special tent, seating and refreshments for the at home Turkey Day game.
KHS PPO role: Class Reps decide to offer, staff and promote. Work with Athletic Department to effect the prize.
Freshman Day The day at the beginning of the school year when only freshmen come to school to hear about school and get a tour. Parents attend opening assembly.
KHS PPO role: Chair(s) coordinate the parent organizations and their table needs. Review and have copied a listing of all KHS organizations to which parents can contribute/belong. Purchase and serve refreshments to parents. Answer questions and offer information to parents. PPO also staffs a table for volunteer sign ups and donations.
Friendship Dance Held annually with Webster. In years when KHS hosts the Turkey Day game, WGHS hosts Friendship Dance and vice versa.
KHS PPO role: KHS PPO volunteer Chair organizes dance with administration. Volunteers staff and chaperone. Refreshments provided by PPO.
Gold K Reception School run reception for seniors earning Gold K award
KHS PPO role: KHS PPO (Junior Hospitality) provides refreshments for the event and recruits Juniors as ushers and helpers (typically NHS members). Usually a volunteer job for Junior parents and students.
Grade Level Parent Informational Meetings (Previously referred to as Parent Coffees) Held in the fall and winter by school administration to update families about gradelevel issues and upcoming events.
KHS PPO roles: KHS PPO President(s) speak about PPO activities and needs. KHS PPO Class Hospitality Reps provide drinks and small snacks to the parent attendees.
Open House The night when parents and families come to KHS to listen to teachers outline the year’s curriculum. Opportunities are available to learn about and contribute to many organizations, and to sign up for activities.
KHS PPO role: PPO VP organizes this event. KHS PPO staffs a table. Grade level class officers optionally staff a table to share information or sell tickets to class fundraising events.
Pioneer Pride School Store The school store, located across from the library, sells spirit wear, blankets, seats, etc.
KHS PPO role: The store is managed by a KHS PPO volunteer and volunteer staff . The store has its own treasurer and group of dedicated volunteers. The store is open during certain lunchtime hours during regular school days and on many other occasions to allow for shopping. Pop up stores at football games and other times and places may be scheduled.
Registration Days The days before school opens when families and kids sign up for everything they need and get their schedules. Parents can sign up to help many organizations and pay for yearbooks and buzz books.
KHS PPO role: Staff a table to get donations and volunteer sign ups and share information on eScrip, PPO activities and a calendar of important events/dates.
Romona Miller Awards An event that celebrates African American Academic Achievement at KHS, NKMS & Nipher.
KHS PPO role: Provide refreshments and attend awards.
Staff Appreciation The function that provides meals and treats throughout the year for the staff at KHS.
KHS PPO role: KHS PPO volunteers lead the team, staff the events and utilize many KHS families for donations of food and drink.
Tacky Day Tacky Day is usually the Monday of Spirit Week the week of the Turkey Day Game. It is an evening when kids stay to decorate the hallways.
KHS PPO role: The PPO buys and sells snacks/dinner for the kids staying to decorate. This is not a fundraiser.
Trivia Night The main fundraising event for the AGP, taking place during each class’s Junior year. All parents are invited.
KHS PPO role: Lead by a Chair and many volunteers, PPO organizes and holds the event.
