Yes! Students wishing to shadow a current KHS student must be in grade eight or above for the Fall semester. Most 8th grade shadows are for a full day, but special circumstances can be arranged for half of a school day. Shadowing days begin October 9th and end on April 16th on Monday, Tuesday or Friday.

Although classes do not begin until 7:45 a.m., the first day of school can be very busy and it is easy to find yourself running late. We recommend arriving by 7:30 a.m. to be sure that you are on time for your first high school class.

• Laptops are to be brought to school every day fully charged.
• Students are responsible for tracking its whereabouts.
• Laptops are to be kept covered and handled carefully.
• Students will be charged fines for lost or damaged laptops, cases, cords, and chargers.
• For a nominal fee, laptop insurance is available through the Kirkwood School District. If coverage is waived, parents are responsible for damages or loss.

Students are encouraged to come to the high school during the summer to familiarize themselves with the campus. The best time to do this is during the schedule pick up days. Students can then walk through their schedules class by class. Freshman and new students will also have the opportunity on Freshman day to walk their schedules.

When school begins in the fall, teachers, administrators, and other staff members will be in the hallways to help students find their classrooms. Even returning students sometimes need to have a little direction too!

Typically, within a week or two, everyone has an understanding of the layout of Kirkwood High School and can quickly get from room to room.

Of course, if all of this still seems daunting, students can go to the Welcome Center on the Dougherty Ferry parking lot and request a paper map.

Below are the minimum high school graduation requirements for earning credit towards a high school diploma in Missouri.

(When content area credit requirements are satisfied, additional courses in the subject will be delegated an Elective credit.)

Each course earns .5 credits per semester (unless otherwise noted in the course description book).

In addition to the above credit requirements, students will comply with all state required testing as well.

The Kirkwood School District has partnered with Launch, a virtual academy that offers students quality online learning options. Launch’s online courses are taught by highly qualified Missouri certified teachers. The Launch courses meet student’s individual needs while providing fresh options for families looking to expand their children’s learning opportunities at the high school level.

Students have the option of choosing a study block as one of their class choices, to receive tutoring, complete homework or do additional research. Study Block is also recommended for students who struggle academically and/or need school time to visit labs or meet with teachers.
Students are able to go to the Pride Center in the library with an e-hallpass from their study block teacher.

• Pride Center - core teachers provide tutoring in the Pride Center each period of the school day. Students can access them during their Study Block.
• Homeroom - Every Thursday during Homeroom, students can travel to 2 different teachers in their schedule to get help with work or make up a quiz/test.
• After School Peer Tutoring in the library - Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays
• Schedule a time with your teacher after school.

If a student still needs assistance, there are alternative Learning options and tutoring available.

The schedule for the 2024-25 school year is a modified block that allows for more teacher collaboration. You will see that on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, students will attend all seven courses and have lunch with their 5th period class. On Wednesday and Thursday, students will have 4 class periods. 

You will have 1st or 2nd lunch based on what building you are in when the lunch period happens. When lunch is with 5th hour, you will go to whichever lunch that building observes. On Thursdays, lunch is with 4th hour. Lunch schedules for areas typically alternate each year.

KHS strongly encourages students to be a part of an organized club or activity. There are many to choose from, but if students do not find one that interests them, then all they need to do is get 10 students and one faculty sponsor to form a new club.

In addition to clubs, there are student groups such as Journalism, Performing Arts, and many Athletic teams. There is truly something for everyone at KHS!

The first officially recorded Thanksgiving Day football game between Kirkwood High School (KHS) and neighboring Webster Groves High School (WGHS) was held in 1907. Since then, with only a few exceptions, the two schools have met each year on the football field to compete for the “Turkey Day Championship” and the coveted Frisco Bell trophy. More than just a football game, Turkey Day has become a celebration of spirit and pride for both communities.

Leading up to the big game, there are a lot of activities for students, alumni, and the entire community. This includes the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week when students will show their school spirit by decorating one of the KHS hallways with their grade level principal and classmates. The community will come on Tuesday morning to walk the hallways together. Tuesday afternoon is the student pep rally to finish the school day. The community is invited to purchase tickets for the annual Chili Bowl, or come and enjoy the free community pep rally.
