How to Check your Student Laptop to Ensure you are Ready to Learn!
1) Plug in your charger to both the wall and to your computer? Do you see a green (fully charged) or yellow/orange (charging) light?
- If yes, yay – your charger works! Move to Step 2.
- If no, uh oh! Stop & come to the Technology LiveChat and let's see if we can get that fixed!
2) Power on your computer.
- If it powers on and you get to the login screen, great! Proceed to Step 3.
- If it does not power on and/or you don’t get as far as the login screen – Stop. Come to the Technology LiveChat for assistance.
3) Select your name and login using your password
- Freshman & other transfer students: you were provided your password on a note when you picked up your device. If you have forgotten or lost the paper – please come to the Technology Livechat for assistance.
- Other grade levels – Your password was set for you when you first received your device.Technology does not know it. If you cannot remember it, please come to Technology LiveChat for assistance.
4) Once you are logged into your computer, please verify that you can connect to the WiFi network in your house (or wherever you plan on participating in your classes and doing your schoolwork)
- If you have trouble connecting, make sure you know your correct WiFi password. If you still have issues, you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider (i.e Charter, ATT, etc) to help with troubleshooting.
5) Open up a browser & login into it by clicking the Schoology or the My Kirkwood link in your dock.
- Your username is your 6-digit student #.
- If you don’t know that password - your CURRENT LDAP password – please come to Technology Livechat for assistance.
6) Lastly open up Zoom (via the Launchpad icon in your dock OR Finder – Go – Applications) and make sure you are properly signed in (again with your LDAP credentials – student # and password)
